Julia and I have never really been the type to say, "We want a vacation house,". Sure we've stopped for a few extra minutes in front of the local real estate office in a quaint town or done a little internet browsing to see what the market is like in a place we are finding our groove in. That's as far as we've gone because we love the thrill of discovering new places each year. Exploring the unfamiliar is exciting for us, there's a certain freshness of being somewhere new. But here we are, just a few days into our trip to Paros, Greece, and we found ourselves at breakfast discussing something we normally don't, even on the best of trips.
As we were reflecting on how great the trip has been so far, we posed the question almost simultaneously: "Would you come back the same time next year?"
Everything about our stay here feels effortlessly wonderful. The food is consistently delicious, fresh, and light. The scenery, whether it's the quaint, white-washed villages filled with bougainvillea and oleander or the crystal-clear waters in the most beautiful shades of blue, is endlessly charming. And best of all, the pace has felt exactly right: a balance of exploring and relaxing.
We loved visiting Comporta two years in a row and often recommend it to friends. Yet, the second trip reminded us how repeating even a beloved destination might not always capture the full magic of the first experience.
Of course, there are still more islands ahead on our trip, and perhaps we'll feel differently later. But right now, as I sip my coffee (yes, I brought my travel coffee setup) and gaze at this incredible view, life feels pretty good. Maybe we're evolving from explorers into creatures of habit—or maybe we've just found a place so captivating it calls us back again and again.
For now, we're letting ourselves dream: Same time next year?
Which camp are you in? Do you go back to your favorite spots year after year, or do you prefer to switch things up and always try somewhere new?
Maybe not every year, but definitely every other year or so, always rounding back to the places we love the most (St Rémy de Provence, Lake Como, Venice, Positano, and always London and Paris!!)
Incredible. So exciting. The future will be bright and beautiful ✨
