Loved reading this Thomas! Consistency keeps being a common thread in yours and Julia’s success. As someone in the same industry and also a parent, it’s a constant struggle to juggle all the glass balls of work vs family, being on vs off. I’d love to see a post from you on something like a day/week in the life and how you both structure your work days from start to finish and some tips on what’s worked for you where in comes to sustainable consistency and work home balance.
Thanks Thomas! Would be interested to hear how your family weighed the pros/cons of sharing your daughters online. I feel like some bloggers/businesses inappropriately share photos/stories about their children that would be embarrassing or upsetting if the child knew. You all always depict your children very tastefully, but their faces and aspects of their lives are still out there on the internet. I assume they are “employees” so they do see some benefit, but how will you approach the sharing versus privacy conversation with them as they become more aware of their own digital footprints?
Thank you for your thoughtful question. We mostly share meaningful snapshots—like special trips or activities—rather than day-to-day personal details or the intricacies of our children’s personalities. Our aim is to remain authentic, but also mindful of their privacy, so if we’re ever uncertain about posting something, we always have a conversation together first. Over time, we’ve chosen to share fewer in-between moments or daily updates, especially as they grow older, which helps us maintain a comfortable balance. We also focus on the positive aspects of parenting and avoid publicly complaining, in order to respect our children’s dignity and future digital footprint. Ultimately, we want to celebrate family moments while still honoring our children’s privacy.
This was so interesting to read, also loved the YouTube channel tip. I’m warming up to the idea of substack too, haha and am usually a “just do it person.”
