6 Things We Have Learned From Our Substack So Far
Finding a home and getting in a groove on Substack
We started this Substack to give our ideas more room. It sits next to the blog, not on top of it. A few months in, here is what has felt true for us and what we’re still learning.
Long Form is great but there’s a sweet spot
We’ve really enjoyed diving into topics and embracing longer form. We can share in a way we haven’t, longer post allow for better thinking and for fun digressions. Video has been a feature that we are surprised that we utilized but we love doing it. Descript Video Editing app has saved me so much time editing the long videos we record. With all of this being said, we know your time is super valuable and we’ve found there’s a sweet spot for our longer form content, we are putting extra effort to stay under 1500 words per post and focus on creating videos that come closer to the sweet spot of 10-15 minutes.
A clear point of view changes everything
Before launching, we worried we’d just recreate the blog in newsletter form. The answer was Trade‑Offs— taking turns exploring different topics. It gives the writing structure. It lets us be different and separate us from the noise. Most of all, it helps new readers understand us quickly: the blog is where we curate; Substack is where we think out loud.
